Our nursery specialises in top quality mail order plants.

THIS WEBSITE IS CURRENTLY FOR INFORMATION PURPOSES ONLY

Owing to two nights of minus 15 degree frosts in the second week of February we are currently assessing extensive damage to our stock; unfortunately we can't take any orders until further notice.

A specialist range of plants, perennial plants, including herbaceous perennials and garden plants. Our mail order plants come to you as well grown established plants, herbaceous perennials you can plant straight out, our plants are all garden plants that establish quickly with no need for growing on.

What is a herbaceous perennial? Herbaceous means that it dies down during the winter, to a permanent woody base and root; perennial meaning to come back every year. And in those two explanations lies the secret behind the value of all herbaceous and perennial plants. Having a good rest during the winter means these fabulous garden plants can devote vast amounts of energy into producing huge quantities of flower and an unstoppable splash of sheer colour. They tend to be very hardy and reliable plants and give many years of satisfaction and colour. As a result they are a very cost effective way of filling your garden with colourful flower and fragrance. Perennial plants are responsible more than any other for the colour in our gardens. They encompass an enormous range of types, growth habits and colours and there are plants for virtually every area of the garden. There are plants for shade, many types suitable for cut flower growing, a huge range of especially fragrant plants, perennials with coloured foliage, ground cover plants, garden plants for edging, herbaceous perennials for borders, rockery and so much more.

A SPECIALIST RANGE OF PERENNIAL PLANTS
These hardy plants are our passion and therefore you will find this site can offer you an almost unlimited amount of information and the opportunity to buy mail order plants which are top quality. The list of varieties is almost endless and includes herbaceous perennial favourites which you know and love, as well as many choice, rarer, new and special varieties of hardy plant. The principles behind Gold Label Perennials remains simple - to offer mail order plants which are a cut above the rest – the best new and unusual varieties, perennial plants with that extra added garden performance and beauty, but beyond that to offer the largest range of perennial plants possible. The subject is a huge one with an almost unlimited array of species and cultivars. We ask ourselves why it should be that only a restricted range is offered elsewhere and why so many good hardy plants are ignored by Garden Centres intent on restricting the range of varieties available purely for their own convenience. We invite you to discover something new and special from our Nursery today, garden plants that will in turn make your garden even lovelier and special too.

PERENNIAL PLANTS FOR THE WHOLE GARDEN
Whether planting a new perennial border, filling gaps in the mixed border, or looking for mail order plants for a specific purpose, you are sure to find them here. Because the herbaceous perennial plant family is so varied and diverse, you can find plants for virtually every use. Plants for shade is a particular favourite as so many of you are looking for garden plants for the shady places in your garden. Such areas are often considered ‘difficult’ yet with such a good range of lovely species that revel in such areas, it need not be considered so. You can access a whole database devoted to shade loving plants, more perhaps than you knew existed! Inclusions in the plants for shade section include Primula’s, Hosta, Ajuga, Lamium, Aconitums, hardy Ferns, Foxgloves – including rare species, Violets, Epimediums, Toad Lily, Brunnera and Astrantia, to name just a few! Fragrant plants are also a great speciality. Fragrant plants bring a whole new dimension to your garden, with fragrance of foliage and flower. Great favourites with our customers, fragrant plants are invariably popular. Look out for Border Phlox, Garden Pinks, Sweet Violets, Peonies, Lavenders, Bee Balms [Monarda] Evening Primrose, Agastache, Lily of the Valley, Lads Love [Artemisia] and many more plants that are enjoyed for their wonderful fragrance.

LANDSCAPING PLANTS
We are happy to supply our plants in small numbers, from one plant each, but remember for those of you looking for landscaping plants in larger quantity, we have very good discounted rates for quantities of 6 and 12 or more, access these excellent prices from the drop-down menu that accompanies each variety.

PLANTS FOR CUT FLOWERS
Herbaceous perennial plants contribute the most variety to the cut flower industry. Many of your favourite vase flowers that you will have bought regularly are also familiar and loved garden/border plants. It is therefore easy, with a little planning, to include plants from this category in your garden planning, or maybe reserve a space or corner especially for them. Such an endeavour is not only very rewarding, it is also highly cost effective. Remembering that these are plants that come back year after year, flowering profusely each season providing bunches and bunches of cut flower – set that against the ever escalating cost of supermarket bought cut flowers – and the benefits are obvious. Growing your own cut flowers results in a much fresher product too – although classic and loved cut flowers such as Delphinium, Peony, Pinks & Carnations, Chrysanthemums, Phlox, Asters and Iris are quintessentially English garden plants, it is an unfortunate fact that the majority of those sold in shops have actually been grown and imported from Holland – or even further afield! You can access an entire section devoted to plants suitable for cut flowers on this site.

QUALITY MAIL ORDER PLANTS AT LOW PRICES
We grow our own stock, so that we can keep a close eye on quality and provenance, ensuring our stocks are true to name and well grown. This also means we can keep our prices at very reasonable levels – often at approximately half that you would pay at a Garden Centre [we know this because our customers tell us] We have no minimum order – all orders are welcome, but also please note that for landscaping plants quantity discount rates also apply. These are accessed from the drop down menu that accompanies each variety.

POSTAGE COSTS & DESPATCH
We continue to keep our carriage costs as low as is feasible. These will be charged @ £4.95 for orders up to £50 in value, and £7.95 for all orders over £50.00 We despatch year round. The vast majority of the mail order plants we offer are happy being transplanted throughout the year, and although our most popular time for ordering seems to be from late February through to late September, there is no reason why you should not have them during the winter if the weather is reasonably open, and there is an advantage to planting whilst the plants are dormant in that they will require far less watering than those put in during the growing period. They also experience little or no setback at this time. Go back a few years, before the advent of the container grown plant, and the planting period was only during the dormant period as plants that were grown in the ground could not be lifted after the Spring!

WHAT WE DESPATCH
The greatest majority of our plants are sent out in 11cm or 15cm pots, with a few smaller growing species in 9cm pots. At times during the winter we may send select varieties out as bare-root divisions and these are often larger. However most will come to you in pots of the size mentioned above and during the Spring/Summer they will all be in pots. All of our mail order plants are well established and suitable for planting direct into the garden or the patio, no need for growing on or cosseting. A cultural guide dealing with after care and including lots of tips is included with all orders. We usually aim to despatch all orders within 10 days and often within 2/3 days.

VISITORS TO THE NURSERY
We specialise in providing a first class mail order service and this is what we are geared to do. You are welcome to visit the Nursery but this is on an informal cash and carry basis. You can wander the beds and pick your own plants but we ask that if you require extensive advice with your selections this is best done by telephone or e-mail as staff that are employed to deal with the mail orders each day may not have extensive time to devote to casual callers. Additionally if you have specific requirements it is best to order them in advance so your order may be made ready for you. The Nursery is generally open 10am-4pm Mon-Fri and Saturday mornings until 12.30pm, from March through September.

GUARANTEE
We are confident of the quality and progeny of our stock and are happy to extend a guarantee covering their successful establishment in your garden as long as they have been properly cared for.
